It seems like people are always coming up with variations on popular outdoor sports. One such example is called kite boarding. Kite boarding is similar to wake boarding but uses a kite instead of a boat and typically happens on flat water. Sometimes called kite surfing, this method uses the power of the kite for movement. The rider makes tack movements which are similar to sailing and allows them to go up and down wind. Many kite surfers have favorite boards including one called a liquid force kite.
There are a couple of different ways of kite boarding including something called freestyle which is the most common and just uses a standard kite and board. There’s also wake style which is done on flatter water using a board with bindings. There is also wave riding which is done on big waves using a specific board for wave riding.
People who kite board use a special board with or without foot straps or bindings. They utilize the power of a large controllable kite to propel themselves and the board across the water. The sport has become more and more popular in recent years. In fact, in 2006 the number of kite surfers was estimated at between 150,000 and 210,000. Riding styles are also variable as more and more accessories come on the market to allow surfers to jump, ride waves and freestyle with ease.
The sport is becoming safer because of recent innovations in the design of the kites including safety release systems and instructions. However, there are still a number of deaths every year as well as injuries due to hitting obstacles, becoming entangled in the lines or having a body drag the land or water.
One very popular product for kite surfers is called a liquid force kite. These are considered to be some of the top of the line kites available for this outdoor sport. Known for their various styles, these kites all have unique specifications that make them sought after in the kite boarding world. For instance, some of them have a bottom contour shape which assists in the up wind performance in the release off the water. Some of the boards are made of wood and a lightweight foam. Aside from the performance and safety features available, these boards are also very trendy and cool in their appearance making them even more popular among enthusiastic kite surfers.
